2017 Educational Series

Join us for our next Film Night, featuring "Can You Dig This" - see how an urban gardening movement is taking place in South Los Angeles!

Location: Town Hall Theatre

When: October 5th, 6:30p - 8:30p
$10 Adult - $5 Senior/Youth

The last thing that you would expect to find in South Los Angeles -- known for gangs, drugs, liquor stores, abandoned buildings and vacant lots -- is a beautiful garden. But an urban gardening movement is taking root in South LA, where people are planting to transform their neighborhoods and are changing their own lives in the process. Calling for people to put down their guns and pick up their shovels, these "gangster gardeners" are creating an oasis in the middle of one of the most notoriously dangerous places in America.

"Can You Dig This?" follows the inspirational journeys of four unlikely gardeners, discovering what happens when they put their hands in the soil. This is not a story of science and economics. This is a story of the human spirit, inspiring people everywhere to pick up their shovels and "plant some sh*t."
For more inspiration, check out the TED talk delivered by one of the "guerilla gardeners," Ron Finley!

This feature-length adventure documentary that brings to light the consequences of our global disposable lifestyle. We thought we could use plastic once and throw it away with negligible impact to humans and animals. That turns out to be untrue.

During its four-year production period, A Plastic Ocean was filmed in 20 locations around the world in beautiful and chilling detail to document the global effects of plastic pollution–and introduce workable technology and policy solutions that can, if implemented in time, change things for the better.
