Sustainable Lafayette and the Town Hall Theatre are co-hosting a screening of this timely film.

Four years in the making, this one-hour documentary reveals how fire suppression and climate change have exposed our forests and wildland-urban landscapes to large, high intensity wildfires - and explores strategies to mitigate the impact of these fires.

The screening at Town Hall is part of a larger effort to engage communities in conversations about the future of wildfires which have become increasingly destructive and devastating in North California. A panel discussion will follow the hour-long film, featuring Contra Costa Fire Deputy Chief Lewis Broschard, Lafayette Mayor Cam Burks, Jay Lifson, Executive Director of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program Manager Duncan Siebert, and environmental author and Sustainable Lafayette board member James Leach (who will also serve as the panel’s moderator).

The panel will discuss local wildfire mitigation measures; emergency preparedness and evacuation plans; Lafayette’s “Firewise” program, and air quality concerns.

Sustainable Lafayette recognizes the importance of building community awareness in this new age of wildfire. Sustainable Lafayette is partnering with area public schools, businesses and homeowners to monitor air quality during wildfire events as well as other times of the year.

This event is open to the public. Tickets are $10 got adults and $7 for youth and seniors. Tickets will be available at the door or can be purchased in advance at Town Hall’s online ticket page.

We hope you can join us for this very informative event!
