Tomorrowland

“TomorrowLand” at the Lafayette Art & Wine Festival

Take a Stroll Through a Green Home of the Future

Mechanics Bank – Sustainable Lafayette – Chamber of Commerce Green Committee

“Tomorrow can be a wonderful age. The home of tomorrow will feature green innovations that will use resources more efficiently than ever before, protect the environment, and benefit our children and generations to come.”

The 2010 Lafayette Art & Wine Festival will feature a special exhibit called “TomorrowLand” that will showcase the latest green innovations that will likely become common by 2020. Festival attendees will be able to take a stroll through a 50’ wide x 10’ deep home-like exhibit with a family/living area, kitchen area, bathroom area, outdoor area, and transportation area. Each area will be loaded with products, samples, and ideas that use energy and water more efficiently, eliminate waste, and make the home of the future far more environmentally friendly than the typical suburban home of today.

Attendees will be able to spot things like an electric car and charging station outside, Dad reading periodicals on an e-Reader under LED lighting, kitchen countertops made out of recycled glass, zero waste, triple pane windows with special low emissivity glazing, all native landscaping with weather-based irrigation control, and 50+ other green features that are sure to educate and inspire kids and adults of all ages. And if attendees have any questions about anything they’ve seen, “ECO Man” will be there to answer them!

TomorrowLand is unique because the features of the model home are all being provided by local businesses and organizations that are in or near Lafayette (see list below). Inspired attendees don’t need to wait until 2020. Most of what they will see is available today and they can learn more right in the neighborhood.

TomorrowLand is being sponsored and organized by Mechanics Bank, Sustainable Lafayette and the Chamber’s Green Business Program. Mechanics Bank is the Festival’s Green Sponsor. The exhibit was designed and planned with the active involvement of Douglah Designs, Net Zero Energy Architects, Ring Construction, Lafayette Tree & Landscaping, Springwood Builders, Minuteman Press, and C&M Party Props. Other partners provided ideas, products on loan, and displays as listed below.
